*cough* ...excuse the dust... *cough*

My drawing board's gotten a little smudged over the last couple years. I've lost track of the plans I'd made, and its all too blurry to try and salvage them. So, I'm erasing the lot, and starting with a clean slate. Pardon the word vomit, my fingers may not always know when to quit. ^_^

Oh holidays, how you hate me so...

Memorial weekend...and my boyfriend's birthday. It's turned out to be a very vicious combination. Between the guac and chips and peanut butter cheesecake and biscuits and gravy, it's been a carb and calorie heavy three days. I think its time to admit that I need more help, and carve out a portion of fundage for the gym membership renewals. I need some classes to kick me into high gear.

The weekend itself though, for all the guilt ridden foods, was an absolute blast. It started on Friday with a trip to Walmart - I remember now why I prefer the one near my work - and a couple hours to set up the new bbq. Then it was errands Saturday morning, cake preparation, and tattoo work for a couple hours, and a trip to the Pirates Dinner Adventure for some beefcake-licious staring, and a bunch of laughs. Good times with good people! Sunday was the actual birthday, starting with breakfast with the fam, then party time with the friends. Ended sorta early, wound down just me and my man, with a semi clean house when the lights shut off. Today has been a kicked back, relaxed day for me, something I definitely needed. Time for introspection, and admittance of things I'd rather not have to deal with. Gotta love time alone.

Creature of habit

What do you do when you've made an entire pot of corned beef, have tons of left overs, and you won't eat it the next day?? My solution? Take it to work and let my coworker munch away at it.

Why, you may ask, wont I eat the left overs. It's not from a lack of wanting to eat them. I LOVE corned beef with cabbage and corn bread. And it's not even all that unhealthy. It's just that I've developed a routine of what I eat, and left overs are most definitely not part of that routine.

I recently signed up for a subscription to Self magazine in my quest to slim down. They're running their Self Challenge right now, and it's had an odd affect on me. I look at the articles and pictures, read the exercise and diet tips, and think...ooooh, I should totally do that. And then I put the magazine down, go sit on the couch, and whatever drive I had promptly flies out the window. I'm aware enough to admit that I just tick this way, and it's something I'm going to have to live with, and find a way to work around.

I remember when I was younger, I used to eat granola and yogurt for lunch with some sort of veggie or fruit on the side. It was my way of trying to eat healthier, so I could get skinnier. I hadn't realized at the time that I was already plenty thin, thank you very much, and didn't need to lose anymore weight. But, BUT, it worked. I lost weight, then maintained the weight, and I felt for the most part pretty happy. I'm not living on my own anymore though, and I'm certainly not getting out and about like I did then. So I have to find more solutions.

I've found my biggest problem is work. I get there, and all I want to eat is bad stuff. Mainly because my boss and coworker eat "bad stuff" all the damn time. I get hungry, and I want food. So I eat whatever I can find. Or order. Which is how I ended up where I'm at now, at least in part. My biggest problem with work is finding something easy to take to work. I have the hardest time remembering to bring left overs. Or I feel too full and sluggish when I eat left over chili verde two days in a row. So I just don't bring anything.

I took a page from my past finally, and bought Yoplait Light yogurt single servings, a box of Special K granola, and 100 calorie snack packs. I leave the box of granola at work, grab a yogurt every morning, a snack pack, and a piece of fruit. I have my coffee in the morning, my snack pack, yogurt and granola for lunch and my fruit in the afternoon. It keeps my hunger at bay, it's healthy, and most importantly, it's EASY. I get home, make a decent dinner - has to pretty sustaining, because my boyfriend is a meat and potatoes kind of guy - and I don't feel quite AS guilty when I go to bed at night. I know it's not enough, but it's a start.

Next step in my reformation? exercise...pray for me -_-

Missing...

...that sexy feeling. It's been a while since I've dressed up, did my hair, got all dolled up for a night out. I miss that confident sexy feeling I used to get when I put on a pair of boots and knew that when I walked out that door, I'd be looking gooooood. As corny as that sounds. It's been a while now since I was willing to put on a form fitting shirt, or a pair of hip hugging jeans without a baggy sweatshirt or loose t shirt to go with it. I can't remember the last time I actually wore boots. I never thought I'd admit this, but I'm missing all my work clothes (the nice slacks, formal sweaters, slick dress shirts) simply because I felt confident and powerful in them. Don't get me wrong, I love my jeans and flip flops, but I need to change it up a bit. I feel ready to start dressing more sophisticated if you will. But, BUT, I have to fit into my clothes first. Things have slowed down a bit (only in preparation for the massive onslaught of activities coming up in the coming months) and I'm getting a better feel for expenses. Maybe sometime in the next couple of months I'll be able to start my diet and work out regime. Eh. At this point, who knows. I'm feeling very blah right now.

Good days...bad days

It amazes me that it's already May. I swear I must of slept through March and April. I've got a jam-packed set of months rolling up on me, and not nearly enough time, fundage, or energy, to tackle it all. And yet...I'll find a way. Somehow, I'll work through the coming months, do what I have to in order to get it all done, and hopefully not come out bruised and battered at the end. The upshot to it all? The summer promises to offer up some pretty kick ass, killer opportunities. I get to hang with friends and family, have some fun in the sun, and enjoy this summer to hopefully its fullest extent. I just gotta keep my spending in check. Ha. Right.

This past weekend though, it was amazing. My boy and I went out to the Tar Pits, walked around in the gorgeous California sun, and just, relaxed. It was exactly what I/we needed, a chance to step back from the rest of our social setting and just be us. Fairly cheap, got to watch a good movie, get out in the sun. It was perfect. Saturday I worked a photog shoot, and during my break us girls all laid out in the sun near the Santa Monica coast line and talked. It felt so peaceful. I'd forgotten what it was like to just lay back and soak in the sun. Hopefully this weekend my boy and I can make it out to the beach and soak up some rays. I think that would be amazing.

Of course the downside that comes hand in hand with something good is bills. Always, the money I saved up gets spent on something. Sure, I got a break on my brakes, but now I've gotta pay my car tags. Which, shame on me, I forgot all about. Two days ago, I thought I was doing pretty good. Today I know I need to buckle down and make it through the next couple of paychecks. Joy. Money can be so...straining. Gah.
