*cough* ...excuse the dust... *cough*

My drawing board's gotten a little smudged over the last couple years. I've lost track of the plans I'd made, and its all too blurry to try and salvage them. So, I'm erasing the lot, and starting with a clean slate. Pardon the word vomit, my fingers may not always know when to quit. ^_^

The Joy of a Check Mark

I've had a very productive weekend. I hung out with my boyfriend, got out near the ocean, had some yummy food, worked a little, and best of all...checked something off my list. AND...ate well. Or at least, better than I normally do on the weekends :D

This past weekend I got a decent amount of work done on my car: got an oil change, replaced the air filter and windshield wipers, had the brakes inspected and cleaned. Today I'm getting new front tires and having the various bolts and whatnot tightened up a bit so maybe my car wont creak as bad now. To top it all off, the brakes were the biggest surprise. I'd been planning - for months now - for a fairly expensive brake job. My car's on 76k miles, and I've never replaced the brakes. So I'm thinking...crap. I've waited too long, I'll need new rotors, this is going to run me $500. Idiot me didn't listen right when I got the quote, and I thought it was $500 for everything, for just the front tires. Turns out that would of covered everything, for all four tires. So I'm pretty excited at this point. I've got more than enough money to cover the front brakes, and still have some left over. So I take my car in to a mechanic that came highly recommended, and an hour later he calls and says..."Your brakes are fine. We just cleaned them. $25 and your out the door, come pick up your car whenever."

Whoo! Now I have good, checked out, verified brakes, can get new tires, AND pay my car tags early without straining anything. It was a HUGE relief, knowing the brakes are good. I'll get my tires tonight, and then this weekend...its the beach baby!!! Yeah!

The money thing's a side bonus, in all honesty. The bigger aspect of this whole thing is the fact that a) I really did discipline myself and buckle down, save the money, and get the shit done. b) I can draw a mental check mark on the never ending To Do List, on a couple different items. After my last post about the TDL, I realized it was a bigger deal for me than I was comfortable admitting. That I can check something off means I've overcome the impression that it's an insurmountable workload, and accomplished something. Baby steps, right? And c) When I found out I'd end up with so much left over, instead of being stupid and blowing it on clothes or something else non-essential, I bought tires, groceries, and am going to renew my car tags. I was smart with the money. Not something I'm always known for.

As far as the food thing goes, I didn't do much in terms of actual exercise. So, in deference to my couch potato status for all of Saturday - which was amazing, mind you - I only ate healthy, or semi healthy stuff. An orange. A low calorie, high fiber, low fat/sodium breakfast sandwich. Slight side tangent here, if you haven't tried the Jimmy Dean D-Lite Turkey Sausage breakfast sandwiches, I highly recommend them. Like, highly. Anyways, I ate better than I normally do, didn't feel over stuffed or sluggish, and was respectful of the fact that if I'm going to sit and do nothing, then I can't eat everything. Mind over hunger! And boredom. May not seem like much, but it was a huge success for me.

The icing to top it all off was the time I got to spend with my man. We went out to a bar that we love, had a couple glasses of beer, sat and chatted with new, interesting people, and all around slowed down and enjoyed the day. We slept in, hung out, and reconnected. It was perfect, and exactly what I'd needed. Like I said...a great weekend!
